The Breaks—the all-star trio of Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Stanton Moore (Galactic), and Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars)—have released their debut single, “Hasheesh”, the first taste of the group’s forthcoming self-titled debut album. The track is streaming now on all major platforms, with the full record set to arrive on May 1st.
Recorded at Marigny Studios in New Orleans, “Hasheesh” arrives with an expanded cast of players, featuring Brad Walker on saxophone, John Michael Bradford on trumpet, Big Sam Williams on trombone, and Pedro Segundo on percussion. The horn section fills out the band’s core organ trio foundation—Roberts’ guitar, Moore’s drums, and Walter’s Hammond—with the kind of punchy, ensemble feel that nods to the classic soul-jazz and boogaloo records that inspired the project.
Roberts, Moore, and Walter all took to social media to announce the release. “Stoked on this band and psyched for y’all to hear what we’ve been up to,” Moore wrote.
The single is the first official musical statement from The Breaks since the group was announced in December 2025. At that time, the band described its sound as “rooted in the tradition of late-’60s organ trios and hard-hitting boogaloo,” while pushing the format forward with “deep-pocket rhythms, tight arrangements, and fearless improvisation.”
“Even though this is a new band, there are years of history between us,” Walter said in a statement. “These are two of my favorite musicians and two of my closest friends. I’m also a huge fan of both Eddie and Stanton. It’s so easy and fun to play music with these people. It’s like putting on a pair of well broken in comfortable shoes.”
The Breaks are set to make their live debut alongside George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners at Cervante’s Other Side in Denver on February 27th and 28th, with additional dates ahead including Sanctuary Music Festival in Nicaragua, a pair of shows at Tipitina’s in New Orleans on May 2nd during Jazz Fest—just one day after the album drops—and Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival on July 26th.
