The Brothers are gearing up for their return to Madison Square Garden after five years away, and this week fans got a glimpse of the all-star Allman Brothers Band tribute in rehearsal. The project led by original ABB drummer Jaimoe and latter-day members Warren HaynesDerek TrucksOteil Burbridge, and Marc Quiñones will take over MSG on April 15th and 16th [get tickets]. Official Allman Brothers Band biographer Alan Paul—author of the definitive One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band—shared a brief clip of The Brothers in rehearsal on Thursday. The 34-second teaser shows Jaimoe (the soul surviving original member of the Allman Brothers) drumming alongside Quiñones and special guest Joe Russo. As the camera pans across the rehearsal space, Haynes comes into frame alongside Burbridge and the back of Trucks’ ponytail—as his signature slide guitar fills the room.

In addition to the surviving Allman Brothers lineage, The Brothers will feature Russo, Reese Wynans (keys), Isaac Eady (drums), and special guest Chuck Leavell (piano). The Brothers first came together for a one-off concert at Madison Square Garden on March 11th, 2020, the evening before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the live music industry virtually overnight.

As the story goes, Haynes and Trucks had the idea to reunite The Brothers after sharing the stage at Warren’s star-studded SOULSHINE hurricane relief benefit concert at MSG last fall. At the show, Haynes and Trucks reconnected onstage for powerful takes on ABB classics “Whipping Post” (with Russo and Duane Trucks on drums) and “Melissa” (with Dave Matthews and Trey Anastasio). Prior to that, Trucks joined Haynes in the studio for a few songs on his latest album, Million Voices Whisper, including a song partially written by the late Gregg Allman (“Real, Real Love“). The in-studio collaboration marked the first time the two legendary guitarists worked on an album together since the Allman Brothers Band’s final studio release Hittin’ the Note in 2003.

Before The Brothers’ return to MSG, the group will perform an exclusive in-studio performance for SiriusXM on Monday, April 14th. The concert will air on the newly launched Southern Rock station on channel 79, featuring music from the Allmans, Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and others, plus exclusive content hosted by The Brothers through April 21st.
