Yesterday’s leaked press release announcing a lengthy U.S. tour with stops in over thirty cities was indeed accurate. To match the exciting news, The Claypool Lennon Delirium have also shared a new track as their follow up to the previously released “Cricket And The Genie,” which we highly recommend you listen to.
The seemingly unlikely duo of Primus bassist Les Claypool and Beatle offspring/Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger leader Sean Lennon has come together in a psychedelic collaboration one could have never dreamed of, but wish they had. One might even describe the combination of masterminds as pure magic.
The space-shifting new single, “Mr. Wright,” indeed confirms an upcoming album Monolith of Phobos, due out June 3 of this summer. From the highly anticipated release, follows their extensive tour, which will feature Beastie Boys’ Mark Ramos Nishita and Paul Baldi of the Fungi Band, as officially announced by Pitchfork.
Claypool explained earlier this year that he met Lennon on a joint tour and they became friends backstage. “I asked Sean if he’d like to come to Rancho Relaxo and see if we couldn’t get some interesting sounds on tape. Next thing I know he’s staying in my guesthouse over the holidays and we’re drinking vino, hunting mushrooms and throwing musical pasta at the walls.”
Lennon adds, “The Claypool Lennon Delirium will (gently) melt your face with heart-pounding low-frequency oscillations and interdimensional guitar squeals. We look forward to seeing you very soon.” The feeling is mutual.
In a new statement from Les Claypool, he describes the project quite colorfully. “Sean is a musical mutant after my own heart. He definitely reflects his genetics – not just the sensibilities of his dad but also the abstract perspective and unique approach of his mother. It makes for a glorious freak stew.”
In addition to the previously announced Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, and Vertex Festival showcases, we can now start to plan our 2016 introduction to The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s world debut with these expansive new dates.
