Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz, the surviving members of The Monkees, will embark on their farewell tour in September 2021. The tour, commemorating 55 years of the Hollywood creation-turned-actual hit-making group, will make its way through major markets in North America through the fall. This farewell tour will mark the end of a unique project that began in 1965 when four young men were cast in a television show about a struggling rock band that was inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night and wound up making an impact on pop culture in their own right.
The 2021 Monkees farewell tour will launch on September 11th in Seattle and end back where the group’s journey began, Los Angeles, CA, with a sendoff at The Greek Theatre on November 14th. The shows will feature the voice of Dolenz (who sang The Monkees’ biggest hits: “I’m A Believer”, “Last Train To Clarksville”, “Pleasant Valley Sunday”, and “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”) and the group’s primary songwriter, Nesmith (who wrote favorites like “Mary, Mary”, “Papa Gene’s Blues”, “You Just May Be The One”, and “Listen To The Band”, to name a few). The performances will also likely feature homages to late Monkees Peter Tork, who passed away in 2019, and Davy Jones, who died in 2012.
