The Motet’s famed cover set shows, where the band performs music of their favorite funk influences (either an album in its entirety or a “mixtape’ of songs popular in a chosen year) are legendary, festive, and full of surprises. This year, The Motet picked on 1977 for a wildly fun run of shows in the midwest. Culminating in a major Halloween throwdown at Park West in Chicago, IL, The Motet got funky to a sold out crowd.

Started over a decade ago in The Motet’s home state of Colorado, these special performances have since become a beloved Halloween tradition.  These days, the band tours nationwide throughout the year, delivering their deep catalogue of original material that has garnered them the reputation as one of the best live bands right now. It’s rare they bring these special sets out on the road, and this was first time ever for Halloween.

The “Mixtape ’77” concept featured a ton of fun covers, including “Got To Give It Up”, “Boogie Nights”, “Fly Like An Eagle”, “Peg” and so many more. Check out the full setlist below, as well as some glorious funky photos provided by photographer Chad Smith!
