There are supergroups, there are dynamic duos, and then there’s whatever The Unrighteous Brothers are. The group, which just released two covers of the Righteous Brothers, is comprised of rising country musicians Orville Peck and Paul Cauthen.

According to Rolling Stone, the group was put together by the two artists for the expressed purpose of playing Righteous Brothers songs. On Thursday, The Unrighteous Brothers released covers of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and “Unchained Melody”.

First up, Orville and Cauthen took on possibly the Righteous Brothers’ most celebrated hit, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”. Originally produced by Phil Spector in 1964, this tune carries the vintage approach that guides this unexpected-but-welcome collaboration. Under the watchful production team of Butch Walker and Beau Bedford (The Texas Gentlemen) , the song carries that classic country tone that harkens back to the genre’s heyday before deteriorating, at least in the eyes of the public, to stadium country.

“When I first heard Orville’s voice, I knew we’d sound good together,” Cauthen said in a press release. “I’ve always wanted to cover some Righteous Brothers tunes, but it took time to find the person I could pull it off with.”

The Unrighteous Brothers also shared a cover of “Unchained Melody”. This song, a slower and darker waltz, fits right into Cauthen’s wheelhouse. Still, it’s not as if Peck is completely out of his element either as the singers’ voices interplay. These two artists, as well as this tributary collaboration, represent the growing country revivalist movement from artists like Colter WallTyler ChildersCharlie Crocket, and many more who are working tirelessly to dispel the “everything but country” mantra that has gripped popular music audiences.

Watch Paul Cauthen and Orville Peck perform as The Unrighteous Brothers in studio. The covers of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and “Unchained Melody” are available on streaming platforms, and will be released as a 7″ single on September 26th for the second of three installments of Record Store Day.
