The Wood Brothers have officially released their long-awaited ninth studio album, Puff of Smoke, via Honey Jar/Thirty Tigers. The release arrives alongside a captivating new video for the title track—an improvised collaboration shot, directed, and edited by Chris Wood himself.

Recorded at their Nashville home base, The Studio NashvillePuff of Smoke is a meditation on impermanence, spontaneity, and joy in the face of an uncertain world. The 11-song collection blends mindfulness, sly lyrical wit, and sonic experimentation into one of the band’s most creatively expansive efforts to date.

“We’re not in control, and that can be good news,” said Oliver Wood. “Puff of Smoke speaks to the idea of letting go and taking the ride.”

From the brassy opener “Witness” to the Queen-inspired anthem “Above All Others”, and the banjo-laced ease of “Slow Rise (to the middle)”, Puff of Smoke captures The Wood Brothers at their most exploratory and self-assured. The album leans fully into presence, compassion, and creativity, drawing on a shared practice of mindfulness, spontaneous musicianship, and over two decades of collaboration.

Puff of Smoke is a reminder that life is both precious and precarious, a sentiment that resonates deeply in today’s unpredictable world.

Alongside the album release, The Wood Brothers unveiled the official video for “Puff of Smoke”, a visually striking and entirely self-produced piece that adds to their growing visual catalog, including lyric videos for “The Trick” and “Pray God Listens”. Directed, filmed, and edited by Chris Wood, the video is a testament to the trio’s creative instincts and hands-on artistry.
