Radiohead’s Thom Yorke appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night where the singer-songwriter debuted a new song, titled “Plasticine Figures”.

Yorke performed the ballad from behind a keyboard in his self-quarantine location and filmed it from what seemed like a cell-phone camera. The lyrics for “Plasticine Figures”, which Yorke released on Twitter just before his performance aired, speak of “plasticine mouths” and “figures” which are full of grace and persistence. While the words seem ever more relevant now given the global health crisis, it is unclear whether Yorke wrote “Plasticine Figures” amid the coronavirus pandemic or not.

Yorke filmed the ballad from a dimly lit room and opened the number with a somber progression on the keyboard. The roughly three-minute track featured two different sections, starting in the minor key before switching to major and releasing the built-up tension. Listen to Yorke’s newest song below.

If not for the novel coronavirus, which has caused the virtual shutdown of all live events, Yorke would have just wrapped up the North American leg of his 2020 Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes Tour. The Radiohead frontman was initially scheduled his tour around a performance at Coachella and has since rescheduled those concerts around the new festival dates this fall. While it is still unclear whether or not large live events will continue as planned by the fall, Yorke is sure to perform if allowed. Click here for the latest information on Yorke’s tour dates.
