The Mother Hips founding member and frontman Tim Bluhm has released a new single, “The Only Solution”, produced by Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools.
In March, Bluhm released a new studio album, Sorta Surviving, a project that was birthed after Tim’s dangerous speed flying (a more intense version of paragliding) accident. Bluhm’s recently released album is the follow-up to 2008’s House Of Bluhm, marking the singer-songwriter’s first new solo studio effort in over 10 years. Sorta Surving was recorded at Hendersonville,TN’s historic Cash Cabin Studio and finds Bluhm backed by artists including acclaimed Nashville session musicians Dave Roe and Gene Chrisman, along with keyboardist Jason Crosby (Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews) and Jesse Aycock (Hard Working Americans, Elizabeth Cook).
“The Only Solution” immediately opens up with a fast-paced backbeat before Bluhm comes in with the vocal lead. Backed by some twangy guitar licks and Crosby’s wizardry on the keys, Bluhm uses the new tune as a medium to reflect on a musician’s life of ups, downs, confusion, and discovery.
Bluhm shared his thoughts on “The Only Solution”. He explained,
I wrote this song maybe to comfort myself, to try and make myself feel good about the path I’ve taken in life. It was originally written in 6/8 and I played it like that many times. This version is in 4/4 with the kick drum played on the upbeats which I think gives the lyrics a more positive tone.
