After spending decades as a driving force in electronic music and topping festival lineups around the world, Tipper has announced his impending retirement from live performances. The enigmatic British DJ/producer said in a brief announcement on Tuesday that his final shows will happen sometime in 2025.
“After spending the better part of my adult life touring and playing shows, I feel like its time to stop,” Tipper wrote in an email to fans. “I’m very grateful for all the support over the years. It will be a wrap sometime in 2025. Peace Out.”
The announcement did not include any additional information on final shows or additional upcoming appearances. Currently, Tipper’s only scheduled sets are at The Rendezvous at The Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL on May 5th and at Lightning In A Bottle in Bakersfield, CA from May 22nd–27th (exact set date not yet confirmed). Tipper’s management has been an integral part of Secret Dreams Music & Arts Festival in Thornville, OH since the event’s inception in 2022, though that event’s 2024 lineup has yet to be announced.
Though Tipper’s retirement announcement was jarring for fans, it was not altogether unexpected. In recent years, the influential artist has scaled back his appearances following a series of unexpected health setbacks. The DJ, who prioritizes his privacy and rarely communicates with the public directly, issued a statement in 2022 that he would be “scaling back” his appearances.
In that announcement, he noted that after his appearance at Sonic Bloom in June ’22, he was given a health diagnosis “that has changed his day to day in significant ways.” Fans were assured, “Its not life threatening, but it is Life Altering, and significant enough he took some time away from the studio for the first time in his adult life to get a grasp on everything.” Since then, he has performed only a handful of sets a year, many of which have come at curated events like Secret Dreams and the festival formerly known as Tipper & Friends at Suwannee, which this year changed its name to The Rendezvous.
Shortly after the announcement, a social media account often used for delivering official messages to the private Tipper fan community made the following post:
