Todd Snider will give fans an inside look at the making of his forthcoming album First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder with a documentary film about the process premiering next week. The documentary, titled First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder: A Visual Album Documentary Film, will premiere with a livestream on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT ahead of the album’s April 23rd release date.

“Take an intimate look at America’s favorite songwriter as the writing and recording of his new album First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder unfolds at The Purple Building in East Nashville,” a description of the film reads. “Hang with Todd Snider like it’s 2020 as he writes and records almost every instrument on his new album with behind the scenes footage and a heavy dose of laughs, rolling joints and Snider’s anecdotes that seem to help us all get through the day.”

This announcement comes as the past few days have brought a flurry of activity from Snider’s social media accounts. Fans were dismayed on Thursday when a post appeared across the singer-songwriter’s platforms stating that Snider himself had halted the release of his new album ahead of its April 23rd drop date from his own Aimless Records.

This was merely the first post in a day-long exercise in parody as a faux internal struggle within the Snider camp and Aimless Records saw the troubadour announce his “retirement,” only to finally take back control of Aimless Records from the “fat cats” at the top. At the center of the controversy was “track nine“, which Snider alleged had been changed without his permission by the “Big Wigs” in the record business. In a trademark act of rebellion, Snider defiantly released track 10 on the album, fittingly titled “I Resign”, as he wrestled back control of his own record label.

“Ending 24-hours of drama and confusion, Todd Snider said today that he’s taken back control of Aimless Records after an unsuccessful quest to release the album under its former administration,” a post on his Facebook read. “Snider announced his decision in song form, with a re-recorded release of track ten, now titled “I Resign.” It contains a searing message to the former Big Wigs of Aimless Records and is available to fans free of charge.”
