Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on Nine Inch Nails will bring their film scoring expertise to a new feature film about the skateboarding culture in mid-90s Los Angeles. The film, titled Mid90s, was written by Academy Award-nominated actor Jonah Hill and marks his first turn as a director for a feature-length project. Notes Consequence of Sound, Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor are appropriate choices to score this mid-90s period piece as Nine Inch Nails has a considerable influence in shaping the era’s musical and cultural aesthetic.
Reznor and Ross are seasoned in the art of film scoring. In addition to a variety of other projects, the pair composed an Academy Award-winning score for 2014’s The Social Network and earned a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for their work on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011). The tag-team is also set to compose the score for a new “dramatic musical” titled Waves from director Trey Edward Shults.
Mid90s stars a cast of talented young actors including Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges, as well as Katherine Waterson and comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The coming-of-age story will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, set to take place from Thursday, September 6th through Sunday, September 16th.
