During the past week, Trey Anastasio Band has been in the midst of its mini fall tour. On Saturday night, the group fronted by Trey Anastasio closed things out with a performance at Fox Theater in Oakland, California. During the performance, Trey and friends laid out a particularly energized show, eschewing the band’s penchant for covers for a setlist particularly focused on Trey originals—the only cover of the night came during the second set, when the band performed Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused” with powerhouse vocalist Jennifer Hartswick at the helm of the tune.

Of note was the second-set closer, “Push On ‘Til The Day”, as Trey dedicated the song to his longtime friend Seacot (also the inspiration for the song, whose lyrics begin “Seacot is a friend of mine, chillin’ in the back lounge drinkin’ wine) who was in attendance for the show. Ahead of the song, Trey explained, “He’s probably one of my oldest and closest friends in the world who I love with the best of my heart. He’s in the audience tonight. That’s my friend Seacot. Chris, this is for you. I love you. The first verse of this song—many of the verses of this song—are a documentary about my life and Chris’ life together.” After reciting the first few lines of the song, he continued, “Every one of those has a story, but it’d take me about an hour to tell you a story about all those lines.”
