Trey Anastasio Band winter tour wrapped up this weekend with a two-night run at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans, LA.

TAB’s New Orleans weekend kicked off on Friday night with the band’s recent go-to arrangement of funky Phish favorite, “Camel Walk”. The momentum built from there with “Blaze On” before Trey and company dusted off The Band‘s beautiful “It Makes No Difference” for the first time since September 2017.

“Mozambique” was up next, followed by Trey Anastasio Band’s first-ever full-band rendition of “Back On The Train”, the Phish Farmhouse track which had previously only been played by the TAB Trio in 2018. The surprise covers continued coming with the first TAB performance of Neil Young and Crazy Horse‘s “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown” since 2008.

The set kept moving with TAB staples “The Way I Feel”, “Curlew’s Call”, and “Money, Love and Change”, before the dextrous horn intro of “Olivia” introduced some Latin vibes into the show. Another rarity followed in “Words To Wanda”, the breezy track off Trey’s 2006 EP, 18 Steps, which had gone unplayed since 2014. From there, the band closed the first frame with a run through Phish instrumental “Magilla” and a set-closing “Everything’s Right”.

The newer “Sigma Oasis” got the call to start set two, followed by a run of high-energy tunes in “Gotta Jibboo”, “46 Days”, and “Simple Twist Up Dave”. Another older TAB tune, “Shine”, came next before the band juxtaposed the ominous “Dark and Down” with their hopeful, a cappella arrangement of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. With time left for a few more, Trey Anastasio Band charged through “Drifting”, “Set Your Soul Free”, and “Sand” to close the set.

Trey still had some surprises in store for the encore, which began with the first-ever TAB rendition of “Evening Song”, the new original recently debuted by Phish as the first song of their four-night 2019 New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden. The show closed out from there with “Valentine” and “Ghost”.

Trey Anastasio Band returned to the Civic on Saturday and got right down to business with “Cayman Review” and the first-ever full-band TAB “Party Time” (previously only played by the TAB Trio in 2018). The first “49 Bye-Byes” since 2017 came next, followed by “Alive Again”, “Sometime After Sunset”, and “Burn That Bridge”.

The always-welcome Phish instrumental “The Landlady” was up next, followed by “Undermind”, “Love Is What We Are”, and “Shade”. Next, TAB queued up their first “A Case of Ice and Snow” since their Civic Theatre performance on 4/26/18. The set came to a close from there with “Will It Go Round in Circles” > “Push On ‘Til The Day”.

“Night Speaks to a Woman” got the nod to open the last of four sets of the weekend in New Orleans.  The energy remained at peak levels throughout the set, which saw the band tear through “Alaska”, “Burlap Sack and Pumps”, “About to Run”, “Last Tube”, “Rise/Come Together”, and “Tuesday” before landing in a rare cover of Dire Straits‘ “Sultans of Swing” for the first time since 2013 featuring lyrical adlibs referencing “Saturday night” and the city of New Orleans. The band finally returned to the stage for a two-song encore of “A Life Beyond The Dream” and a climactic, tour-closing “First Tube”.
