Trey Anastasio released a new song, “Lost In The Pack”, on his Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon. According to Trey’s post, the song was written by “Trey, Tom, and Scott” and recorded yesterday, March 17th, as people worldwide continue their social distancing practices in hopes of slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Tom Marshall, Anastasio’s longtime lyricist/songwriting partner, confirmed to Live For Live Music that he is the aforementioned “Tom” and that Scott Herman, another longtime collaborator, is the aforementioned “Scott.” The song was shared along with a photo of a barefoot Trey hard at work on an acoustic guitar in what appears to be his home. The photo was credited to “Sue,” which we can only assume is his wife, Sue Anastasio.
The soft-spoken, Americana-style acoustic track offers a vulnerable and sincere message in times of such uncertainty: “I’m so far out, I’m in again, so long as you remain my friend.”

Trey Anastasio’s upcoming performances certainly haven’t been immune to the ongoing coronavirus cancellations plaguing the live music industry. All of Oysterhead‘s April shows have been canceled or postponed, and Wednesday brought news that the trio’s appearance at Bonnaroo has been pushed back until September along with the rest of the festival. We’ll have to wait and see regarding the fate of the scheduled upcoming dates for Phish and Trey Anastasio Band.
