Trey Anastasio has shared a pro-shot video highlighting the Trey Anastasio Band‘s performance of “Dark and Down” during the group’s recent two-night run at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre last weekend.

The performance of the Anastasio original came halfway through the second set of TAB’s January 31st concert at the New Orleans venue, and launched the crowded venue into the tail end of the 26-song show.

Anastasio led the the band into the tune with the smooth, slightly-distorted riffing on his guitar before slowing things down for the start of the lyrics. The lighting of the room was brought down to the point of near-darkness to match the song’s shadowy theme as Trey and company eased the audience through the core of the brooding ballad.

Trey softly opens into the solo portion of the performance beginning just before the video’s 4:00 mark, and gradually builds up to a scorching lead through the emotional peak of the song.
