Trey Anastasio continued his most extensive solo acoustic tour to date on Friday with an intimate night of songs and stories at Mershon Auditorium in Columbus, OH.
The show was not Trey’s first solo performance in Columbus. As he reminded the crowd, he previously played a solo show in 2021 after his entire eight-piece Trey Anastasio Band ensemble contracted COVID while on tour in 2021:
We were trying to get back on the road after COVID, and I’ve got this beautiful eight-piece band with horns and percussionists. We were on tour, and one by one, everybody started getting COVID. I can’t remember where we were the three nights before we got here, but first, we were an eight-piece band. Then, I think the horns got COVID, and we became a five-piece band. The next night, the percussionist got COVID, and we were down to four. The following night, the keyboard player got COVID, and suddenly, we were a three-piece band. By the time we pulled into this beautiful town, no one was left—so I played the show solo. So, it’s good to be back for another one.

This time around, Trey played a 17-song set comprised mostly of Phish songs—among them staples like “Possum”, “Stash”, “Bouncing Around the Room”, “The Divided Sky”, and “Harry Hood”, deeper cuts like “More”, “Brian and Robert”, and “Oblivion”, and newer tunes like “Turtle in the Clouds” and “A Life Beyond the Dream”. He also mixed in a single solo tune, “Evolve”, and one from TAB songbook, “Snowflakes in the Sand”. Jeff Tanski once again sat in on piano toward the end of the set, and Trey capped off the night with four-song encore featuring the recently debuted “6 1/2 Minutes”, “My Problem Right There” (a collaboration between Trey and Amanda Green introduced to Phish’s repertoire in 2010), the title track from his 2020 album Lonely Trip, and Phish fan favorite “Sand”.
