On Tuesday, funk powerhouse Turkuaz premiered the new music video for “Superstatic”, one of the standout tracks from their 2018 album, Life In The City.
The video was shot at the famed Brooklyn Bowl in the band’s native Brooklyn, NY in front of green screens and captures the lighthearted energy Turkuaz hopes to exuberate during their live show while also showcasing the colorful personalities of each of the band’s nine members.
As guitarist/vocalist Dave Brandwein explains of the new “Superstatic” video, for which he served as the producer,
From the inception stage of us writing and recording this song, it was always about capturing the vibrant energy of what we aim to do as a band. It’s a throwback to some of our favorite music of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, but with our own Turkuaz spin. The hope in creating the video was to take that energy and run with it. Though we’ve done videos in the past, we hadn’t successfully captured the various personalities of each member, or visual elements of our live show. I think we achieved this via an explosion of colorful fun and imagination, thanks to the amazing team that put it all together.
Directed by Dani Brandwein and Jocelyn Pierce, the “Superstatic” involved a number of personnel who banded together their talents to create something wholly unique and true to the nature of Turkuaz. As Dani Brandwein shares, “Making ‘Superstatic’ in many ways represents the Turkuaz ethos as a whole: throwing everyone’s resources and talents together to create something that hopefully brings people joy – with an extra sprinkling of strangeness. I still can’t believe we turned Brooklyn Bowl into a green screen studio. I wonder if the band that was sound checking that Monday afternoon will ever see this!?”
