Turkuaz has released a video cover of The Beatles‘ Abbey Road track, “You Never Give Me Your Money”, which the band initially recorded for Season Two of 11E1even Group‘s virtual festival series, Live From Out There.

On June 8th, 2020, Turkuaz premiered an hour-long Beatles cover set for Live From Out There. For those not able to watch live, Turkuaz has since started to rollout individual videos of the set, which started with their cover of “Rain” and quickly followed up by “Here Comes The Sun“. Much like that video, and the entirety of the set, their rendition of the Paul McCartney-penned “You Never Give Me Your Money” sees members Dave Brandwein (guitar/vocals), Taylor Shell (bass), Craig Brodhead (guitar), Michelangelo Carubba (drums), Joshua Schwartz (vocals), Chris Brouwers (keys), Shira Elias (vocals), and Sammi Garett (vocals) following the typical quarantine music video formula of recording each part from a separate location.

Much like McCartney on the original, Brouwers began with a boogie-woogie piano progression on a song Brandwein described in a press release as the “Last burst of magic as a band.” Shell then slides into the mix on bass before Brandwein captures The Beatles’ vocal work eloquently. Schwartz, Elias, and Garett then add some vocal harmonies before Carubba kicks the song into high-gear on drums. The song stays true to the original, even more so than the previous covers, and highlights Turkuaz’s ability to master the complexities of a difficult composition.

“This song being third might represent the inevitable complications that arise in life, even after a sunny period. There’s always more. Things are always changing and evolving and this represents some of that,” he continued in the press release.

“This song really does it all,” Shell added. “It unfolds with elegant mystery, it’s super catchy and the rhythm section parts are amazing. It’s really just a bold statement at the end of their amazing run.”

Brandwein wrote a new song for the occasion based on the social issues present in society today, titled “The Sideline”.
