Twiddle concluded their two-night “Frendsgiving” run at the beloved Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Saturday night with a two set performance with support from the Eric Krasno Band. The show on Saturday followed an impressive Friday night concert which featured Twiddle and the Kitchen Dwellers trading off a mix of sit-ins and cover jams. On Saturday, it was Krasno and company’s turn to rock out with Twiddle, as both jam outfits piled their equipment onto the stage for a night full of music that could only be experienced at a venue with as much history and memorable moments as The Cap. The performances of both bands were even streamed live via Relix for fans who were still out of town on Thanksgiving break to enjoy from the comfort of mom and dad’s makeshift concert couch.
The night began with Eric Krasno and his band delivering a wonderfully powerful rock performance beginning shortly after the 27:30-minute mark in the video below. The popular guitarist and his band powered their way through an opening set that could have easily gone well into the night, but definitely helped set the stage (plenty of pun intended) for the night of music from Twiddle that followed shortly thereafter.
The members of Twiddle took the stage following an introduction by robots (you can watch that at the 1:51 mark in the video below). Twiddle’s return to the New York venue comes just a few weeks after they shared the stage with Phil Lesh & Friends for night one of the Grateful Dead bassist’s Phil-O-Ween concerts late last month. The groovy jam band began their own performance on Saturday night with “Tiberius” off of their 2007 Natural Evolution of Consciousness album, which would remain the recurring musical theme for the entire first half of the show. The band would weave in and out of the up-tempo tune while mixing in “Mamunes the Faun”, “Orlando’s”, “Amydst the Myst” and “The Box”, before bringing the set to a heavily spacey and energetic end in with “Tiberius”.
Set two started with one of the band’s newer songs, “River Drift”, before welcoming vocalist Matisyahu to the stage to help them perform “Latin Tang”. “Machine”, “Beethoven & Green”, and “Apples” came next, followed by a cover of The Beatles‘ “Rocky Raccoon”, before closing things out with their familiar combination of “Hatti’s Jam” > “When It Rains, It Poors”. The band would also return for a one-song encore of “Juggernaut” to close out what was certainly a successful holiday weekend at The Cap.
