Vermont-based jam-rock quartet Twiddle staged a three-set performance at the Worcester Palladium in Massachusetts on Saturday night, which saw the band debut two new songs. Twiddle had originally scheduled the show for New Year’s Eve but later postponed due to the COVID-19 Omicron surge.
Led by Mihali Savoulidis (guitar/vocals), the four-piece wasted no time getting to the good stuff, opening with the never-before-played “Breakadidown”. After working through “Keep Going” and “Mildew Man”, Ryan Dempsey‘s keys linked up with Mihali’s guitar and navigated Twiddle through a rendition of John Lennon‘s “Imagine”. This first frame saw a second debut as well, a reggae-infused track dubbed “Turtles”, which provided the platform for a set-ending take on “Stroganoff”.
As Twiddle returned back for its second of three sets, percussionist Adrian Tramontano (Kung Fu, The Breakfast) joined Savoulidis, Dempsey, Zdenek Gubb (bass/vocals), and Brook Jordan (drums/vocals), and sat in for the remainder of the show. This second set contained tracks like “Orlando’s”, “Polluted Beauty”, and “Lost In The Cold”, as well as a massive “Apples” > “Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)” > “Apples” segment.

The band once again proved that stamina wasn’t an issue, returning for a third offering and launching into a nearly 16-minute telling of “White Light” followed by over 12 minutes of “Syncopated Healing”. “Slippin’ In The Kitchen” eventually made its way to a cover of Talking Heads‘ “Girlfriend Is Better” as Twiddle rounded out the final set with “Mamunes The Faun”, “Hattie’s Jam”, and “When It Rains It Pours”. Mihali and company would then return for a one-song encore, sending the Worcester crowd off into the night with Tears For Fears‘ “Mad World”.
