Tyler Childers has released a new music video for “Country Squire”, which finds the country-folk revivalist transposed into claymation. The song comes from Childers’s 2019 album of the same name, which was produced by Sturgill Simpson. Country Squire gained Childers his greatest commercial success to date, as it hit #1 on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts.
In the video, directed by The Walking Dead comic book artist Tony Moore (billed as Colonel Tony Moore in the credits), we find an animated Childers dreaming of the simple things in life. While working the honky-tonk bars in Chillicothe, OH, Childers catches the eye of a young woman who he eventually courts with a fox pelt and the purchase of a recreational vehicle. The pair traverse the nation along the country-music highway to Circleville, OH, and their relationship is strengthened as they make repairs to the decrepit RV.
Somewhere along the line of paying his dues and playing his tunes, Childers hits it big and ends up performing on television, much to the surprise of the sleaze who sold them the lemon of a Country Squire (the brand of camper for which the song is named). As the man and woman grow old together, raise a family, and eventually fly off into space, Childers is still “Dreamin’ ’bout the day that I’m sittin’ by the fire/Huddled with my honey in her Country Squire.”
