Co-founder of Ultra Music Festival and Miami nightlife icon Alex Omes has passed away at the age of 43. Cause of death is unknown at this point.
In 1999 alongside then-partner Russell Faibisch, Omes created Ultra Music Festival, a part of WMC, and a staple of the dance music community ever since. After he was forced out at Ultra in 2010, because of conflicts that arose over the festival’s decision to break off from WMC, he filed an unsuccessful lawsuit to maintain co-ownership of the festival. Omes was not out of work long as he would go on to stage other events with partner Emi Guerra and Swedish House Mafia in Miami.
However in 2012, Omes had announced a new festival, UR1, but after reported low ticket sales, not even the co-bill of Kayne West and Lou Reed could save the event.
The electronic dance community will forever be in Alex Omes debt.
