After performing a handful of shows in the Southeast, Umphrey’s McGee paid a visit to the Wanee Music Festival for back-to-back nights. The rockin’ jam band promised that one of their sets would be filled with some mash-up songs, a beloved tradition that the band usually reserves for Halloween, and they delivered last night with some fun performances.
The set was framed by “JaJunk,” with the opening rendition segueing into “2×2.” From there, the band played their first mash-up, titled “Come As Your Kids,” featuring Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” MGMT’s “Kids,” and Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).” Later on in the set, a “Frankie Zombie” bust-out saw the band mash-up White Zombie’ “Thunder Kiss ’65,” Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s “Relax,” and Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar.”
One final mash-up from the performance saw the band mix Verve Symphony’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” and Umphrey’s original, “Hajimameshite,” for “Bitter Sweet Haji.” From there, the group jammed into the finale of “JaJunk,” which closed the set. After a single encore of “Hangover,” UM bid Wanee a fond farewell and called it a great night.
