Yesterday marked the end of a musical era, as the beloved Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park mansion at the age of 57. Prince was an absolute legend, with a remarkable catalog that has provided inspiration for so many artists. It’s no surprise that just about everyone who performed last night managed to work a tribute into their setlist, reviving the Purple One’s music to play an emotional farewell.
For Umphrey’s McGee, that moment came with a performance of “When Doves Cry,” a song that has been in their repertoire since last year. The band released a pro-shot version of their “When Doves Cry” debut earlier in the day, and worked it into their setlist last night in honor of Prince.
The band hit Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK, where they opened their show with an “Auf Wiedershen” -> “40’s Theme” combination. After a power-packed first set with a “Turn & Run > In The Kitchen > Space Funk Booty” combination, set two opened up with “The Triple Wide.” From there, Umphrey’s segued into their Prince tribute, bringing out “When Doves Cry” for the crowd, and themselves.

The set continued with some more great jams, and closed out with a “Glory > In The Kitchen” encore to send fans home right. Umphrey’s McGee returns to the road tonight, April 22nd, with a performance at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, TX. Check out the full setlist below, via All Things Umphrey’s:
