Last night, on the 18th anniversary of their first-ever performance, Umphrey’s McGee kicked off the first of their three nights at The Beacon Theatre in NYC. With support from Tauk, the first half of the evening was smooth-sailing, rocking artistry, featuring fan favorites like ‘Kimble’, ‘Plunger’, and ‘Rocker Part 2’.
By the second set, they jumped into gear with two honourable tributes. Following up an extensive ‘All In Time’ opener, the band introduced an incredibly unique version of their original song ‘Booth Love’, featuring jams and lyrics from ‘You Belong To The City’ by Glenn Frey, who sadly passed away last week.
The encore presented itself as a double tribute to the late David Bowie. Debuting ‘Space Oddity’ was a chilling reminder of Bowie’s absence, as “the stars look very different today.” Clocking in at a brief 2:20 of psychedelic ground control, they transitioned straight into a dance-heavy cover of ‘Fame’, which they’ve played eleven times in the past.
