Umphrey’s McGee teamed up with multi-media company Flight School Studio to help film the band’s recent sold-out performance at Chicago’s Lakefront Green. On Wednesday, Umphrey’s premiered the third video as part of a new series, which gives fans unique perspectives in 4K high-definition and utilizes the 360° OverCapture technique. The new “The Silent Type” video follows up the band’s previously released “Push & Pull” and “40’s Theme” videos.

For their debut performance at the outdoor Chicago venue, the sextet kicked off their second set with a red-hot “The Silent Type”. Moving out of the song’s composed structure, guitarists Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger locked into a tight-knit improvisational segment, backed by former lighting designer Jefferson Waful‘s swirling rainbow effects. “The Silent Type” appears on Umphrey’s McGee’s 2018 it’s not us studio album.

The “The Silent Type” video was directed by Pete Herzog, who has worked alongside the band in the past on producing a virtual reality concert experience for one of their 2016 shows. This time, Herzog and Umphrey’s utilized new techniques for the live video series, which included a pit helmet cam, drones, and spherical 360° angles to capture every perspective of the experience using 5 GoPro Fusion cameras.
