Last night marked the first of three consecutive Tennessee performances for the Chicago-based jam group Umphrey’s McGee. Eager to show off their chops to the entire state, the band’s three-night run will see them performing in three cities: Memphis, Knoxville and Nashville. Last night, the band got started on the right foot with a tremendous performance at the Minglewood Hall in Memphis.
Among the many highlights of the show were bust-out covers of Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” and Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” both of which were played for the first time in 2016. The band also welcomed out a very special guest, as North Mississippi Allstars’ own Cody Dickinson joined UM during the end jam of “Booth Love” for some percussion and vocal accompaniment.
Also of note – the set-long version of “Ocean Billy” to span the first half, as well as big jams on a run that included “No Diablo -> Resolution -> Booth Love.” Umphrey’s is playing with a passion, and we can’t wait to see what more the band his in store for this extended Tennessee run.
