Umphrey’s McGee headed to New Haven, CT on Friday evening for the band’s first of two limited-capacity performances at the new Westville Music Bowl.

With Brendan Bayliss appropriately decked out in his finest tennis jacket for the gig at the former professional tennis stadium-turned-music venue, the band worked through a number of heavy-rotation favorites on night one in New Haven. While the band largely stuck to the usual script, there were plenty of highlights peppered in, from a first set “Nothing Too Fancy” with Van Halen “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love” teases from Jake Cinninger to an extended cover of Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker‘s “Daffodils” sung with gusto by drummer Kris Myers.

For set two, Umphrey’s McGee dove deep into improvisational jams, showing off their group improvisational abilities on a searing “It Doesn’t Matter” -> “Speak Up” segment as a chilly spring breeze blew through the stadium.

After closing out set two with “Wife Soup”, the band returned to put an exclamation mark on their first-ever show at Westville Music Bowl with a powerful “All In Time” encore featuring notes of Miles Davis‘s “Milestones”.

Check out some photos and videos from the performance below. Limited tickets for Saturday night’s performance remain on sale here.
