Vulfpeck returned to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on a snowy Thursday night for their first performance of 2019 featuring support from Khruangbin and Cory Henry‘s trio, The Revival.

After top-notch sets by Henry and Khruangbin, Vulfpeck took the stage sporting colorful 80s-style ski gear for their headlining performance. The band began the show by working through a number of fan-favorites including “The Sweet Science”, “Animal Spirits”, “Cory Wong”, “Disco Ulysses”, and “Hero Town”. Next, the band welcomed Cory Henry to the stage to add some extra organ to “Adrienne & Adrianne” before Theo Katzman took to the mic for “Lonely Town”.

Vocalist Antwaun Stanley took the stage for the next portion of the show, leading the band through “1612”, “Funky Duck”, “Aunt Leslie”, and “Wait For The Moment”, the latter of which also featured Henry on the organ. After a characteristically off-kilter “TED Rocks” speech from Jack Stratton, the ensemble delivered a “peck-a-pella” rendition of “Back Pocket” before ceding the spotlight to bassist Joe Dart for one of his signature vehicles, “Beastly”. Katzman once again led the band on vocals for a sing-along “Christmas In L.A.” before Dart drove the set home with “Dean Town”.

When the stage lights came back up for the “encore”, the familiar floating guitar stands of Vulfpeck offshoot band The Fearless Flyers came into view. In turn, Cory Wong, Joe Dart, guitarist Mark Lettieri, and drummer Nate Smith took the stage in their trademark all-black and sunglasses for a surprise mini-set to close the performance. The Fearless Flyers segment marked just the second time the nascent band has performed live, following their one-off North Coast Music Festival late-night show last summer.
