Vulfpeck shared a new single on Friday entitled “LAX”, featuring multi-instrumentalist Joey Dosik. The single comes as the new-age funk outfit continues to release tracks off its upcoming studio effort The Joy of Music, The Job of Real Estate.

Since releasing the first four tracks of The Joy of Music, The Job of Real Estate in July and sharing “LAX” today, Vulfpeck bassist Joe Dart and touring guitarist Cory Wong revived their The Fearless Flyers spinoff project. The band, which also features drummer Nate Smith and guitarist Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy), released its debut LP barely two weeks after Vulfpeck put out the first four offerings from the new album. “LAX” completes side one of The Joy of Music on vinyl. Pre-orders for the limited-edition first-pressing vinyl are now available through the end of September.

The song, along with its accompanying music video, finds the perpetually-upbeat funky stylings of Vulfpeck accented by the featured vocal and saxophone work of Dosik. No stranger to the Vulfpeck operation, Dosik has been playing with the band dating back to its 2013 EP My First Car and as recently as the group’s 2019 live album from Madison Square Garden.

As for the lyrics and subject matter itself, those are also classic Vulfpeck, as the band enjoys the hassle of air travel knowing that there is a fateful companion waiting to pick them up at the gate. Humor abounds throughout the song with lines like “Won’t be long now, I’m on my way/All over you like I’m TSA.”
