On Friday, Warner Records released Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions), a 16 track compilation of alternate recordings from the late Tom Petty‘s Wildflowers sessions which were left off the massive 2020 reissue of the 1994 album.

This new compilation includes a mix of exceptionally fresh new takes on songs from the acclaimed album which featured playing from Ringo Starr, Carl Wilson (Beach Boys), and Tom’s Heartbreakers bandmates in Phil Jones, Steve Ferrone, Howie Epstein, Benmont Tench, and Mike Campbell. Petty and Ringo share a laugh before going into a duet take of “Wildflowers”, and there are much heavier, grittier versions of songs like “Wake Up Time” and “Crawling Back to You”.

Similar to the Grateful Dead‘s American Beauty: Angel’s Share outtakes/alternate version compilations released by RHINO in 2020, Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions) delivers a refreshing spin on old songs, allowing one to reacquaint themselves with these beloved stories Tom left for us.
