Bruce Springsteen kicked off his “The River” tour last night, playing the first of many scheduled dates at Pittsburgh, PA’s Consol Energy Center. The tour comes in support of a recently-released deluxe edition of Springsteen’s 1980 album, The River, and the rock icon performed the whole original album in its entirety for the performance.

While the full performance of The River was planned, Springsteen continued rocking with a handful of selections from his own catalog to close out the main set. Upon returning for the encore, the singer launched into a monologue about his friendship with David Bowie, as Bowie supported Springsteen during his earliest days as a musician. Finally, the group broke out into “Rebel Rebel,” a touching tribute for the fallen star.
