Over the weekend, the Flaming Lips headed to the beloved Belly Up venue in Aspen, CO for a pair of performances. Prior to playing, the band promised they would pay tribute to David Bowie during the shows. The band wasted no time, paying tribute with not just one song but eight, immediately opening the two-night run.

The covers included: “Space Oddity,” “Life On Mars?,” “Five Years,” “Ziggy Stardust,” “Fame,” The Man Who Sold the World,” “Golden Years” and “Ashes to Ashes.” Fortunately, thanks to Future Heart, there’s full video of the tribute set. Watch below:

Frontman Wayne Coyne also took some time to reflect on Bowie’s impact on both music in general and on the band’s music specifically. In the speech captured below, Coyne says, “I think it doesn’t do him justice when people think he’s from outer space. He was a human.” A great human indeed.
