Anyone who knows and understands the musical persuasions of mandolin player Jeff Austin knows that the man loves the Grateful Dead and Phish. Last night at Nectar’s Lounge in Seattle, Austin and his band, comprised of guitar player Ross Martin, upright bass player Eric Thorin, and the newest member of the Jeff Austin Band, banjo player Ryan Cavanaugh, teamed up with Boulder-based tribute band DeadPhish Orchestra for a show during the final week of their Winter Tour.
During DeadPhish’s set, Austin joined the band for a trio of songs featuring the Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie” Phish’s “Sand” and “Cumberland Blues” from the Dead’s 1970 Bakersfield-inspired record, Workingman’s Dead.
