Jazz saxophonist and bandleader Kamasi Washington has taken the world by storm over the last couple of years, playing with everyone from jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock and Stanley Clarke to hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar and producer Flying Lotus. He will embark on a world tour this summer, playing major festivals around the world like Bonnaroo, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival, and London’s Hyde Park, just to name a few.
Washington was recently down in New Orleans during Jazz Fest and played a special show at One Eyed Jacks on Saturday, April 30th with his band The Next Step, which consists of Washington (tenor sax), Brandon “Professor Boogie” Coleman (piano, keyboards), Ryan Porter (trombone), Patrice Quinn (vocals), Miles Mosley (double bass), Tony Austin (drums), Ronald Bruner Jr. (drums), and special guest Ricky Washington (flute, saxophones). During one particular hot segment, the group decided to go old-school gamer and cover the theme song from “The Legend of Zelda“, which featured a freestyle rap from bassist Miles Mosley.
