Phil Lesh resumed his run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY last night, bringing back one of his most beloved “Friends” lineups to date: The Quintet. Comprised of Jimmy Herring, Warren Haynes, John Molo and Rob Barraco, “The Q” toured semi-regularly from 2000-2003, and have since reunited to play together a handful of times. It’s always a treat to see these five get together, and last night was no exception.
The show opened with a potent improvisational section, just showing the group’s ability to feed off of each other for some excellent musicianship. The jam eventually segued into a cover of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” led by Haynes’ vocals. Enjoy that below, courtesy of Sean Roche:
Next up was a “China Cat Sunflower” into “Let It Ride,” the latter of which you can watch below:
The set rocked on with “Passenger” into “Cosmic Charlie,” with a rockin’ “Cassidy” to follow. “Spots of Time” closed out set one.
Set two was as fun as ever, with “Mason’s Children” jamming into a cover of Allman Brothers’ “Mountain Jam” which subsequently went into “Mountains of the Moon.” For those who want more of this show, stream the full audio below, thanks to taper Dave Malloy:
The band is set to return to the Cap tonight, so don’t miss out! Check out the setlist below:
