Last night, recent Grammy-winners Portugal. The Man made their way to the iconic Ed Sullivan Theater for a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The performance saw the band reach out to the local New York community for some support. They were joined by the BK Steppers, a Brooklyn-based program that aims to “develop a commitment to personal excellence in young people through innovative, quality performance arts education and practical experience in arts-related careers,” and the PS22 Chorus, the historically vibrant and over-achieving 5th-grade choir at Staten Island’s PS22.
The chorus sang and danced with excitement as they basked in their opportunity to live in the moment on national TV, and the young but skilled drumline added an extra driving pulse to the tune. The Alaskan-native, Portland, OR-based outfit has been one of the hottest bands in the world of late (the fact that their bus literally caught fire recently has ensured plenty of jokes to that effect). They also just announced an extensive new crop of tour dates which will have them on the road throughout much of this year worldwide before finally returning to Alaska for two tour-closing nights in Anchorage.
