With Snarky Puppy’s new album, Family Dinner Vol. 2, due out later this month, the funky jazz collective has shared a new single from the fresh release. After sharing “I Asked” earlier this year, the Puppy follows it up with this one-of-a-kind collaboration with the legendary David Crosby. Titled “Somebody’s Home,” the new song is a soulful ballad, exquisitely executed by the whole band.

The new album comes as a follow-up to 2013’s Family Dinner Vol. 1, featuring a number of guests performing with Snarky Puppy. Check out the new single, “Somebody’s Home,” below, and head to the band’s website to pre-order the new release!

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Crosby explains more about the song. “The title is a phrase I have been using for years, meaning there is a human soul, an aware intelligence, present in a person. When you look in their eyes you get the sense there is someone home there looking back at you.”

Crosby also talks about his newfound love for Snarky Puppy: “When I was wandering around YouTube looking for music I had not heard yet, I ran into the band Snarky Puppy and loved them immediately. Fine players having a blast playing intelligent, beautifully written compositions that swung hard. I started tweeting about them … ‘OK here’s your Snarky Puppy song of the day’ or ‘Time to get Snarked again’ … and I’d rant about how good they are.”

He’s certainly right… Snarky Puppy is great! If you want to catch the band’s own Chris Bullock performing instrumental tributes to Phish, alongside members of RAQ, Sun Ra Arkestra, Trey Anastasio Band, Victor Wooten Band and more, be sure to head to Jazz Is Phish next Thursday, February 18th at the Hall At MP in Brooklyn, NY.
