The National were among the acts performing at last weekend’s Treasure Island Festival in San Francisco, CA, bringing their energetic blend of rock/Americana to the annual SF tradition. The National are known to be Grateful Dead fans, and are even featured in The Other One documentary about Bob Weir. Thus, when the band was in Weir’s hometown just days after his birthday, they had to dedicate a song to the Grateful guitarist.

Thus, the National performed “Peggy-O” at TI Fest, just two days after Weir’s birthday, in celebration of the guitarist. While the Dead didn’t write “Peggy-O”, the tune quickly became a staple of the band’s live repertoire, and The National’s cover was a fitting tribute. Listen in below:

Members of The National are also included on the recording sessions for Weir’s new “cowboy album”, which will hopefully be coming out soon!
