Ween finished their three-night Halloween run of shows on Friday night at Denver’s Mission Ballroom, which was filled to the brim with a nearly 4,000 fans dressed up and ready to celebrate the peak of the holiday weekend.

After a pair of crazy performances on Wednesday and Thursday, Ween left nothing off the table to complete their third night of the Denver run by delivering a pair of bust-outs and skipping set break to play a straight, two-hour, 27-song set, only to be capped off by a five-song encore.

Deep blue lights welcomed the band to the stage at 8:40 p.m., after which Dean Ween started into the grungy guitar intro to “Did You See Me?” After a play of their popular “The Mollusk”, the crowd went wild as “The HIV Song” bounced around the room and the silly, totally crude lyrics were sung all around. The band went into “Learnin’ To Love” which acted as its first time played in 2019, before heading into their heavy “I’ll Be Your Jonny on the Spot”, which featured Gene Ween on the megaphone over Dean’s scratchy guitar tone. Echoing sirens brought up “Japanese Cowboy”, turning the show into a different direction from the grungy sound the band had been pumping out to lighten the room with the upbeat country-folk tune.

“Stroker Ace”, “Boy’s Club”, and “Albino Sunburned Girl” all came next, with all three making their return to the band’s playbook since December 14th, 2018. The band kicked it back to one of their earlier tunes, playing “Pork Roll Egg and Cheese” from their 1991 album, The Pod. Gene added to the night’s highlights with his versatile-pitched voice, and kept up the “food theme”, serving up “Chocolate Town” next. The room’s energy quieted down as “Birthday Boy” gently serenaded everyone’s souls, with both Gene and Dean in sync with their guitar melody onstage.

One of their most famous and psychedelic tunes, “Mutilated Lips” was served up next, followed by their frenzied “Tick”, which saw over a year’s play since October 2018. After “The Stallion Pt. 5”, Dean took over lead vocals for the bluegrass song “I Saw Gener Cryin’ in His Sleep”, and brought the tune to a close by saying to the crowd, “That was very jam.” The last bit of the show saw the two-year gapped “Put the Coke on My Dick”, as well as “Captain”, “Back to Basom”, “She Wanted to Leave”, all which led to the guys into their quick “Waving My Dick in the Wind”. The two-hour continuous set concluded with flute-centric “Tender Situation”, and “Your Party”.

A well-deserved quick break off stage obviously refreshed the band to come out and as Dean stated, “let’s take this f***** down”, as they proceeded into their screaming “You Fucked Up”, “Sketches of Winkle”, and “Common Bitch”. What everyone thought to be the last song of pizza day “Someday”, the guys completed their sing-a-long under the venue’s disco ball with “Homo Rainbow”.

Ween goes on to take a well-deserved, month-long break, and will return to the Northeast stages on December 13th with shows at Boston’s House Of Blues and Philadelphia’s The Met Philadelphia on December 14th to finish off 2019 tour schedule.
