Weezer released a new single on Wednesday entitled, “Hero”. The new song is set to appear on the rock band’s forthcoming Van Weezer album, and arrived with a new music video which pays tribute to those working the front lines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video begins with singer Rivers Cuomo writing a letter which then appears to be passed on (digitally) by dozens of everyday people, a few animated characters, and members of the band who all recorded their parts at their various at-home settings. The letter, which is finally revealed at the end of the video, is a “Thank You” note to anyone around the world still going to work keeping society moving during this global pandemic. Scroll down to the bottom to read the entire note.

The band even went a step further to send dinner meals from Uncle Paulie’s Deli in Los Angeles to the nurses at the city’s Good Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday by way of Postmates.

While Van Weezer was originally scheduled to arrive this month, the band also confirmed on Wednesday that it will be delayed. Details for a new release date will likely be revealed by the band in the coming weeks.

Weezer was scheduled to embark on their 2020 HELLA MEGA TOUR alongside Green Day and Fall Out Boy beginning in mid-June, but the first leg of the tour in Europe has since been postponed due to COVID-19.
