A never-before-heard audio recording of The White Stripes‘ 1999 performance in Athens, GA is now available for fans to relive on popular concert audio hub Nugs.net.
The 11-track recording was captured at the original performance at Athens, GA’s 40 Watt Club on September 27th, 1999 by Ben Blackwell, who eventually went on to co-create Third Man Records alongside White Stripes guitarist Jack White. The original performance was recorded by Blackwell onto cassette, which has since been restored and mastered to 24 bit / 192 kHz audio quality.
The performance at the 40 Watt Club took place just a few months after the arrival of The White Stripes self-titled debut album in June of that year. The show’s setlist that night included a handful of songs which appeared on The White Stripes, including “Sugar Never Tasted So Good”, “Suzy Lee”, “Astro”, “Broken Bricks”, “Jimmy the Exploder”, “Slicker Drips”, and “The Big Three Killed My Baby”.
Fans can stream the album here with a Nugs.net subscription, or purchase the Mp3 for just $4.95.
Last month, Third Man Records announced the forthcoming 20th-anniversary reissue box set of the band’s 1999 debut. Fans have until October 31st to register for the chance to purchase the anniversary box set. Head here for more info.
