Widespread Panic continued its rollout of archival material on Wednesday with a video of “Imitation Leather Shoes” from February 11th, 2011. This show at The Classic Center in Athens, GA came as the second in the band’s three-night run of 25th-anniversary concerts.

The video of “Imitation Leather Shoes” follows that of “Greta“, recorded the previous evening and released last weekend. The past couple of weeks have seen Widespread Panic digging through its extensive memory box and rescuing clips from its 2002 documentary, concert films, vintage TV appearances, and much more.

This video drops viewers straight into the action as bassist Dave Schools gets the engines started by thumping out the opening beat. The second song of the second set on the second night, the band is red hot as it tears into this Don’t Tell the Band track. From the very beginning, the song opens up with plenty of opportunities for guitarist Jimmy Herring to tear it to shreds.

But the tune is a group effort, after all, as a mid-song breakdown allows for Schools to jump back out in front with some funked-out leads. Everyone gets their hands on this one as the buildup starts from the tag team percussion of Todd Nance and Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, who also rope keyboardist JoJo Hermann into the fold. Frontman John Bell even takes his turn at the helm, equipped with a slide to cool the coals in the engine for a brief spell before the momentum smoothes out as the video ends and the band heads into “Blue Indian”.
