[UPDATE 2/23/24]: Widespread Panic shared an update with fans on Friday explaining that the reason for the last-minute cancelation of the band’s three-night Chicago run was an unspecified health issue concerning bassist Dave Schools, who they said is on the road to a full recovery after brief stay in the hospital.
“Dear Friends and Fans,” the band wrote in a social media post.
We want to provide you with a quick update regarding the canceled Widespread Panic shows in Chicago.
Recently, Dave had a brief stint in the hospital due to an unexpected health concern. We’re happy to share that he is on the road to a full recovery and in good spirits.
Dave and the Boys are excited to reunite for the upcoming St. Augustine concerts in March. Thanks to everyone for your understanding and Loving words of encouragement these past weeks.

2/22/24: Widespread Panic announced on Thursday that its planned three-night run at Chicago, IL’s Chicago Theatre has been canceled. The announcement comes a week after the band initially postponed the Chicago Theatre stint until later in the month due to “unexpected health issues.” No reason was given for the cancellation of the postponed dates.

Please be advised that the Widespread Panic performances that were re-scheduled to take place at The Chicago Theatre on February 28, 29, and March 1 have been canceled.
Tickets purchased with a credit card online or over the phone with Ticketmaster, or directly through The Chicago Theatre Box Office will automatically be refunded to the original purchaser’s credit card account. Please note that you should expect to receive your refund in as soon as 30 days.

[2/15/24]: Widespread Panic has postponed its three-night run at Chicago, IL’s Chicago Theatre, the band announced on Wednesday evening. The run was due to begin today, Thursday, February 15th, and continue through Saturday, February 17th. The run will now take place on February 28th, February 29th, and March 1st.
According to the band’s postponement announcement on Thursday evening, “One of our brothers ran into some unexpected health issues. Regretfully, the band must postpone and reschedule the Chicago Theatre shows. … We thank you for understanding and look forward to seeing you in two weeks!”

Tickets for each original show date will automatically be transferred to the respective rescheduled show date and will not need to be exchanged. Thursday, February 15th tickets will be valid on Wednesday, February 28th. Friday, February 16th tickets will be honored on Thursday, February 29th. Saturday, February 17th tickets will get you into the rescheduled show on Friday, March 1st.
Ticket-holders who cannot commit to a rescheduled date can request a refund. If a refund is not requested, tickets will automatically be transferred to the rescheduled show date. To obtain a refund for tickets purchased through Ticketmaster, visit your Ticketmaster account page. For refunds on tickets purchased through the Chicago Theatre box office, call the venue’s guest relations department at 212-465-6255. Ticket-holders will be contacted directly by the venue with further information.
The postponement of the 2024 Chicago Theatre shows due to health concerns is eerily reminiscent of the planned Widespread Panic Chicago run in 2020. That year’s early April stint in the Windy City was similarly postponed shortly before the shows were due to take place as COVID-19 began to take hold, making them among the first of countless events to be disrupted by the pandemic.
While fans are surely disappointed about the last-minute postponement, the band helped ease that sting on Thursday with the release of its latest studio single, “We Walk Each Other Home”. Listen to the new track here.
