Widespread Panic delivered more archival content on Monday with a video of “Protein Drink” into “Sewing Machine” from Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. The video of the eternal pairing was taken from Panic’s 4/16/11 show at the Pelham, AL venue.

This video comes as the latest in an ever-flowing stream of archival live content from the southern rock jam band. Since unceremoniously beginning a continuous–almost daily–barrage of live videos at the start of 2021, the band has released clips from its 2002 documentary, 25th anniversary run of shows, concert films, interviews, vintage TV appearances, and more.

The pair of songs come from brute.‘s 1995 album Nine High a Pallet, which found members of Widespread Panic—specifically John Bell, Michael Houser, Todd Nance, Dave Schools, and JoJo Hermann—teamed up with guitarist Vic Chesnutt, a frequent collaborator. Four out of five songs on the album, including “Blight”, “Protein Drink”, “Sewing Machine”, and “Let’s Get Down To Business”, found their way into Panic’s regular live repertoire. brute. would go on to release one more studio album, 2002’s Co-Bait.

In this live cut, guitarist Jimmy Herring sounds off the track with the earworm guitar riff. JB grabs a seldom-seen hybrid acoustic guitar to get in on the action as they weave through the stop-start structure of “Protein Drink”. The first half of the movement rolls on like a big tease as Widespread Panic picks up momentum, only to pump the breaks. This makes the payoff of “Sewing Machine” all the more gratifying, however, as Herring is finally let loose and able to run wild on the song to close the first set.
