Widespread Panic will once again team up with nugs to offer livestreams of the band’s three-night run at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 27th, 28th, and 29th. A lot has happened for Widespread Panic since the band’s last trip to the famed Denver-area natural amphitheater in June 2024. In July of 2024, before they could play another show, the band issued an announcement that sent shockwaves through its diehard fanbase: “The Widespread Panic Family is sad to report that our Brother, Jimmy Herring, has been diagnosed with stage 1 tonsil cancer,” the Athens, GA rockers wrote. “He will begin treatment immediately and is expected to make a full recovery. That part we’re happy to report.”
The part they were less enthused to report was that for the time being, Widespread Panic needed to be put on an indefinite pause. In a matter of days, the band had cleared its schedule of all upcoming shows. Months passed as concerned fans waited for an update. The year closed without the band’s traditional Halloween, New Year’s, and Panic en la Playa announcements, though the band helped hold fans over with the August release of Hailbound Queen, a companion to June’s Snake Oil King, which collectively marked the first new batch of Widespread Panic studio recordings in nearly a decade.
Before the end of 2024, however, the band had scheduled its first shows since Jimmy’s diagnosis in Atlantic City. A flurry of 2025 tour announcements soon followed. For a band and fanbase tragically familiar with the cancer’s unforgiving nature, each set of dates came with a collective sigh of relief. Jimmy Herring was okay. The band has now been on a tear since returning to the stage in Atlantic City, notching memorable runs in St. Augustine, Nashville, Charleston, and Chicago.
