I remember looking at that album cover and thinking to myself, “Hey, that guy kinda looks like Will Ferrell.” That guy, as it turns out, is Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. And, when Ferrell posted a video saying that he was, in reality, Chad Smith… well, the drummer was not amused.

Smith responded, calling out Will Ferrell’s drumming abilities. “I’ve seen your skills… You don’t got ’em.” He challenged Will Ferrell to a drum-off of sorts, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Ferrell accepted the challenge.

He wrote the following on Reddit:

“Hi, Chad. Will Ferrell here. I saw your video and I graciously accept your invitation to a drum battle. If we can raise $300,000 for Cancer For College I will face off with you in the greatest drum vs. cowbell showdown the world has ever seen. We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call.

Also, would you rather fight a hundred duck sized ducks or one horse sized horse?”

This isn’t the first time that the two have been called doppelgangers.

In 2011, Chad Smith was asked about their similar appearances in an interview with Rolling Stone. He answered by reflecting on the one time that the two met in person. “It was at the premiere of Ladies Man many years ago,” said Smith. “I’m looking at Will and thinking, ‘People really think I look like him? I don’t fucking look like that.’ He looks me up and down and says, ‘You’re very handsome,’ and walks away. Totally deadpan. I was like, ‘You’re funny. You’re funny.'”

As of now, the publicity behind this drum battle has raised over $200,000 for Cancer For College. You can donate by following the link in Will Ferrell’s post. I know I’m going to, if only to see some more of this:
