Willie Nelson first started hosting his annual 4th of July Picnic in his native Texas back in 1973. It has returned on a semi-annual basis since then, often in new locations. Since 2015, the event has taken place at Austin, TX’s Austin360 Amphitheater. The last edition of Willie’s Independence Day soiree not to take place in Texas came in 2009 when Nelson joined up with Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp at South Bend, IN’s Stanley Coveleski Stadium.
The 90-year-old Nelson has a busy year ahead of him on the road (again) in 2024. In addition to a number of dates at notable amphitheaters and festivals on the West Coast and in the Midwest in April and May, Willie will once again mount his traveling Outlaw Music Festival tour this summer featuring a number of artists on the 4th of July Picnic bill in addition to Brittney Spencer, Southern Avenue, and, for one night at The Gorge on August 10th, Billy Strings.
