Last night, the Yonder Mountain String Band made a triumphant return to the beloved Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. With a lengthy opening set from the Drive-By Truckers, fans were pleased to switch gears with the string band for a well-rounded night of folk tunes and bluegrass.
The evening opened with a “Casualty” sandwich, with “Pockets” tastefully tucked in the middle, before heading into the “Winds of Wyoming”. You can watch footage from their opener in the video below:
The horns players from Preservation Hall Jazz Band joined in for an epic “Son of A Preacher”, which you can watch below, courtesy of YouTube user Kyle Isaac:
The energy was at an all-time high for an extended “On The Run” > “Annalee” > “On The Run” jam, before sizzling into the beautiful “Alison” and “Sister Golden Hair” cover. YMSB closed their set with “Rambler’s Anthem” into “Kentucky Mando” before bringing it back for a climactic “Rambler’s” closer.
When they returned to the stage for an encore, it was with the ever-exciting Talking Heads‘ cover “Girlfriend Is Better”, which you can watch below:
With ten days off, the band returns to the road on August 31 in Bayfield, Wisconsin with a few dates in September to follow.
